Digg

Results: What categories do these users post in?

Using Voyeur Tools, the column from the database outlining the category a story was posted to was analyzed. By pasting the column into Voyeur Tools, the site analyzes every instance a term appears in a sample, and provides numerical data showing the most common terms.

The results show that the most popular content on Digg is ‘offbeat’ material – humourous/weird stories, as well as random pictures, videos and Internet memes. Though news stories were filtered not to include picture and video posts, many users post pictures and videos as “stories” in hope to garner more attention.

Looking past the skewing of results that the offbeat posts caused, it can be seen that the next most popular topics to appear on Digg are based on technology, news (any news that is not politics related), entertainment (television, music and movies) and politics (both American and world politics).
In order to find out specifically what topics were most discussed among these categories, Voyeur Tools was then used on the headlines of the posts themselves.
